22.5 million Americans aged 12 or older in 2004 were classified with past year substance dependence or abuse (9.4 percent of the population), about the same number as in 2002 and 2003. Of these, 3.4 million were classified with dependence on or abuse of both alcohol and illicit drugs, 3.9 million were dependent on or abused illicit drugs but not alcohol, and 15.2 million were dependent on or abused alcohol but not illicit drugs.

Drug Intervention

For every person who struggles with addiction it has been estimated that another six people are impacted by the addicts disease.

Drug Intervention Defined
Drug intervention is the process of stopping a chemically dependent person from continuing to use their drug of choice, despite negative consequences. In the AOD field drug intervention has come to mean to motivate an individual to enter treatment, who is currently unwilling to do so.

When Is The Right Time For An Intervention?
This is perhaps the most often asked and the most often unanswered question that families ask. it’s time. If you think someone you love is addicted, you must act quickly. Crisis comes and crisis goes, but with the disease of drug addiction, we don’t get to choose the consequences our loved ones will face the next time.

Drug interventionists are trained to assist you in confronting the drug addicted individual. We encourage you to learn as much as you can and then contact an intervention specialist.
